To increase the young dentist’s understanding of headline issues in periodontology.

With a focus on practical application, this webinar will discuss a range of topics including: aetiology of periodontitis; risk factors; non-surgical periodontal therapy; surgical periodontal therapy; supportive periodontal therapy; when to refer; examining and maintaining dental implants; and diagnosis and management of peri-implant diseases.


  • To outline our current understanding of the aetiology of periodontal diseases
  • To understand the key risk factors involved in the development of periodontitis and their practical applicability in a clinical setting
  • To provide tips on delivering effective oral hygiene advice
  • To understand the objectives of non-surgical periodontal therapy, including the indications for adjunctive antimicrobial therapy
  • To appreciate the indications and contraindications for surgical periodontal therapy

About the speaker

Dr Reena Wadia

BDS Hons (Lond) MJDF RCS (Eng)

Reena qualified from Barts and The London with the prestigious Gold Medal as well as numerous other undergraduate dental awards. Following general practice, Reena worked as a Senior House Officer in both Restorative Dentistry and Oral Surgery. Currently, she is in her final year of the part-time specialty training programme in Periodontology at Guy’s Hospital. She is also working in general practice at Woodford Dental Care.

As well as being passionate about acquiring new knowledge, Reena has always encouraged and supported other young dentists by sharing any learning and experiences. To this end, she created her own blog (www.reenawadia.com) as a platform to communicate valuable information. Reena is also a part-time clinical tutor at Barts and The London and endeavours to contribute to the profession through her National Board Member position at the Faculty of General Dental Practice and local committee role with the British Dental Association.
